How to remove stains from football kits and gym clothes

Sports kit takes a battering: grass slides, mud, the odd cut and a lot of sweat. Nearly all of it is organic, which is what Enzyme Powered is made for. The key is to treat it before it goes in the wash, not after it has been through.

Grass and mud

Use the pink one: Enzyme Powered

Let mud dry completely and brush off as much as you can. Then treat what's left, and any grass marks, with Enzyme Powered.

  1. 1Spray directlySpray Enzyme Powered onto the stain until it's wet through. Don't rub: it pushes the stain deeper.
  2. 2Wait 1–3 minutesLeave it to work. Don't let it dry on the fabric; if it starts to, mist it again.
  3. 3Wash as normalWash with your usual detergent, following the care label. Check the stain has gone before tumble drying.

Blood

Use the pink one: Enzyme Powered

Rinse under cold running water from the back of the fabric first, never hot. Then spray Enzyme Powered, wait 1–3 minutes and wash at no more than 40°C.

Sweat marks and smells

Use the pink one: Enzyme Powered

Spray Enzyme Powered over sweat marks, such as the underarms and the back of the neck. Both formulas help remove stains and the odours trapped within them. They aren't disinfectants or sanitisers.

Suncream and body oils on sports tops

Use the blue one: Pro Formula

Suncream and body oil marks are oily, so they're Pro Formula jobs. Most sportswear is polyester or nylon: test on a hidden area first, and don't use Pro Formula on delicate synthetics or waterproof membranes.

Top tips

  • Get kit out of the bag as soon as you're home. Damp, closed bags make stains and smells worse.
  • Wash technical fabrics at the temperature on the care label.
  • Air-dry treated kit and check it before using a dryer.
