How to remove beetroot stains
Updated · By the Luniva team
Quick answer
Use Luniva Enzyme Powered (the pink one). Spray it directly onto the stain, leave it for 1–3 minutes, then wash as normal following the garment care label.
Treat beetroot straight away and keep it away from heat until it's gone. If a faint pink shadow is left after the wash, treat and wash it again.
Step by step
- 1
Lift and blot
Pick off any pieces and blot the juice with kitchen roll. Don't rub: it spreads the colour.
- 2
Rinse from the back
Run cold water through the back of the stain to flush out as much colour as you can.
- 3
Spray and wait 1–3 minutes
Spray Luniva Enzyme Powered until the stain is covered. Don't let it dry on the fabric.
- 4
Wash as normal
Wash with your usual detergent, following the care label. Air-dry and check before tumble drying.
Beetroot is one of the brightest food stains in the kitchen: a slice from a salad, a splash of borscht or a beetroot juice smoothie can leave a vivid magenta mark on a shirt, a tea towel or a white tablecloth. It's a food stain, so it's a job for Luniva Enzyme Powered: rinse, spray, wait 1–3 minutes, then wash as normal.
Why beetroot stains so strongly
Beetroot gets its colour from natural pigments that dissolve in water and soak quickly into fabric, so even a small drip spreads. Like red wine and berries, the colour is easiest to shift while it's fresh. Heat from a hot wash or the dryer can help what's left settle into the fibres.
Fabric guide
Best on washable everyday fabrics
Cotton, linen, denim, polyester and cotton blends: clothes, kidswear, bedding, towels and washable covers.
Test first on delicates
Patch-test an inconspicuous area on silk, wool, viscose, leather-trimmed items or anything labelled dry-clean only.
Don't let it dry
Spray, leave 1–3 minutes, then wash. Don't let the treated area dry out before washing.
Check before drying
Inspect the area after washing and repeat if any shadow remains. Dryer heat can set a leftover mark.
Beetroot: questions
Often, yes. Rinse with cold water, spray Enzyme Powered until the stain is wet through, leave it 1–3 minutes and wash. Older stains may need a second treatment.
Yes. Enzyme Powered is suitable for washable cotton and linen and it's bleach-free. Follow the care label and test a hidden corner first if the cloth is old or delicate.
Treat the beetroot with Enzyme Powered and wash. If a greasy mark from the dressing is left, treat that separately with Pro Formula and wash again.
Pink. Beetroot is a food stain, which is what Enzyme Powered is for.
Based on controlled laboratory testing. Performance may vary by stain type, fabric, age of the stain and wash conditions. Always follow the garment care label and test an inconspicuous area first.
