How to wash pet bedding and blankets

Pet beds and blankets collect mud, hair, drool, accidents and that unmistakable doggy smell. The answer is a regular wash with the stains treated first. Luniva is for washable fabrics, so this is about removable covers, blankets, throws and machine-washable beds, never the pet.

Step by step

  1. 1Shake and de-hairShake the bedding outside and go over it with a vacuum or a rubber glove to remove hair. Hair clogs the washing machine filter.
  2. 2Lift any messRemove solids and blot wet patches with kitchen roll.
  3. 3Spray and wait 1–3 minutesSpray Enzyme Powered until the stain is wet through. Don't let it dry.
  4. 4Wash and air-dryWash as the care label says. Air-dry and check the smell has gone before tumble drying.

Smells

Both Luniva formulas help remove stubborn stains and the unpleasant odours trapped within them. Wash pet bedding on its own, every week or two, and dry it completely: damp bedding smells quickly.

Top tips

  • Choose pet beds with zip-off, machine-washable covers.
  • Keep a spare blanket so there's always a clean one while the other dries.
  • Never apply Luniva directly to pets or skin, and keep pets off treated items until they're washed and dry.

Questions

Luniva is bleach-free and ammonia-free. Use it on the bedding, then wash it, and keep pets off treated items until they're washed and dry. Never apply it directly to pets or skin.

Rinse the patch in cold water, spray Enzyme Powered until wet through, wait 1–3 minutes and wash. Don't tumble dry until the smell has gone.

Luniva is made for washable fabrics, so use it on removable covers and throws that go in the washing machine, not on carpets or upholstery.
