How to remove cola and fizzy drink stains
Updated · By the Luniva team
Quick answer
Use Luniva Enzyme Powered (the pink one). Spray it directly onto the stain, leave it for 1–3 minutes, then wash as normal following the garment care label.
Don't leave a sugary spill to dry overnight. Even if you can't wash the garment yet, a cold rinse straight away makes the stain far easier to shift later.
Step by step
- 1
Rinse with cold water
Rinse the back of the stain under the cold tap to wash out as much sugar and colour as you can.
- 2
Spray directly
Spray Luniva Enzyme Powered onto the stain until it's covered. Don't rub.
- 3
Wait 1–3 minutes
Leave it to work. Don't let it dry on the fabric.
- 4
Wash as normal
Wash with your usual detergent, following the care label. Air-dry and check before tumble drying.
Cola, energy drinks, orange squash and other soft drinks leave sticky marks that can turn brown as they dry. They're drink stains, so they're a job for Luniva Enzyme Powered: rinse, spray, wait 1–3 minutes, then wash as normal.
Why soft drinks leave a mark
Most fizzy drinks are full of sugar and colouring. When a spill dries, the sugar leaves a sticky patch that holds on to the colour, and it can darken over time or in the heat of a dryer. Dark colas and bright orange or red drinks show up the most.
Fabric guide
Best on washable everyday fabrics
Cotton, linen, denim, polyester and cotton blends: clothes, kidswear, bedding, towels and washable covers.
Test first on delicates
Patch-test an inconspicuous area on silk, wool, viscose, leather-trimmed items or anything labelled dry-clean only.
Don't let it dry
Spray, leave 1–3 minutes, then wash. Don't let the treated area dry out before washing.
Check before drying
Inspect the area after washing and repeat if any shadow remains. Dryer heat can set a leftover mark.
Fizzy drinks & cola: questions
Often, yes. Spray Enzyme Powered until it's wet through, leave it 1–3 minutes and wash. Older stains may need a second treatment.
Yes. They're drink stains, so use Enzyme Powered the same way. Brightly coloured drinks may need a second round on light fabrics.
Diet drinks have less sugar, so they're usually less sticky, but the colouring can still stain. Rinse, spray, wait 1–3 minutes and wash as normal.
Based on controlled laboratory testing. Performance may vary by stain type, fabric, age of the stain and wash conditions. Always follow the garment care label and test an inconspicuous area first.
