How to remove egg and dairy stains
Updated · By the Luniva team
Quick answer
Use Luniva Enzyme Powered (the pink one). Spray it directly onto the stain, leave it for 1–3 minutes, then wash as normal following the garment care label.
Rinse egg and milk in cool water, not hot: heat cooks the protein into the fabric.
Step by step
- 1
Spray directly
Apply Luniva to the stain until saturated. No rubbing, no pre-soak.
- 2
Wait 1–3 minutes
Active Enzymes break the stain down at the molecular level. Don't let it dry.
- 3
Wash as normal
Machine-wash as normal. Air dry; never tumble dry until you've confirmed the stain is gone.
Egg, milk, yogurt and ice cream are pure protein-based food stains – exactly the stain family Luniva is engineered for. Proteases digest the protein at room temperature in 1–3 minutes, before it has a chance to coagulate and set into the fibre.
Why dairy and egg stains set into a permanent mark
Heat is the enemy of protein stains. The moment hot water or a tumble dryer hits an egg yolk or milk spill, the protein coagulates around the fibre – that's why a once-invisible milk drip turns into a yellow mark after washing. Luniva's protease breaks the protein at low temperatures, before it sets.
Fabric guide
Best on washable everyday fabrics
Cotton, linen, denim, polyester and cotton blends: clothes, kidswear, bedding, towels and washable covers.
Test first on delicates
Patch-test an inconspicuous area on silk, wool, viscose, leather-trimmed items or anything labelled dry-clean only.
Don't let it dry
Spray, leave 1–3 minutes, then wash. Don't let the treated area dry out before washing.
Check before drying
Inspect the area after washing and repeat if any shadow remains. Dryer heat can set a leftover mark.
Egg & dairy: questions
Yes. Spray, wait 1–3 minutes, wash at 30–40°C. Cold/warm water keeps the protein from setting.
Yes. Spray, leave 1–3 minutes, wash as normal, following the garment care label. Repeat once for fully oxidised dairy stains.
Yes – Luniva is bleach-free and colour-safe. Always rinse thoroughly and wash before re-dressing.
Both are protein + fat – Luniva's protease + lipase combination is built exactly for this.
Hot water or tumble drying coagulates the protein into a visible yellow mark. Treat with Luniva first, then wash as normal, following the garment care label.
Based on controlled laboratory testing. Performance may vary by stain type, fabric, age of the stain and wash conditions. Always follow the garment care label and test an inconspicuous area first.
